- Home page for the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse Association. As you can tell, we love
Mountain Horses, and most of our horses are registered with KMSHA. Go here.
- We also really like the Tennessee Walking Horse. Two registry organizations; TWHBEA and
NWHA.
- Tack for gaited horses isn't easy to find at the local retailer. National Bridle Shop is a great
online resource for bits, show gear, trail stuff, and tack essentials. Go here.
- For Mountain Horse riders in the Northeast, there's a regional club just for us; the Northeast
Mountain Horse Club. Go here.
- For Walking Horse riders (or other gaited breeds, too) in the mid-Atlantic, check out the
Plantation Walking Horse Club of Maryland. Fun group, lots of activities. Go here.
- Our favorite leisure reading, Trail Rider magazine. Go here.
- Link to an interesting website of unusual breeds. Go here.
- A great link that explains the saddle rack gait of the Mountain & Racking horse. Go here.
- The only 'bombproof' horses we've ever seen for sale. Go here. As long as horses have a
brain, feet and the instinct to flee danger, they'll always be just a little ways from bombproof. Training and trust help a horse overcome its natural instincts, but, it's still a horse.
- And strictly for your entertainment: EZD's Falcon Rowdy was the biggest, baddest speed
racking horse of them all. This YouTube video of Rowdy, ridden by his owner John Demetris, never fails to get my complete attention. On days that you want to ride fast, you'd want to ride a horse like Rowdy (if you dared). And just to prove this video is shown at regular speed and hasn't been sped up, the camera clock ticks away on screen. Yes, Rowdy really was that fast. Go here.
Favorite trail riding destinations:
- Our number one, absolute, without a doubt trail riding destination is the Big South Fork
Recreation Area, on the Cumberland Plateau in central Tennessee. We keep going back and falling in love with the picturesque scenery, southern hospitality and unmatched trail riding, and I don't think we'll ever ride all the trails in the Big South Fork in our lifetime. When we go, we camp for a week at a time. Our favorite campground is Saddle Valley Campground outside of Jamestown--Ed & Teresa Elam run a hospitable, comfortable campground with great facilities right smack-dab in the middle of some of the best of the Big South Fork, and we always feel right at home there. Go here for their website and more information.
